Stainless Steel 321 is an austenitic chromium-nickel steel alloy stabilized with titanium, developed specifically to improve resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the range of 425–850°C. It shares similarities with Grade 347, which is stabilized using niobium instead. This stabilization prevents carbide precipitation during welding or prolonged high-temperature exposure, making SS 321 ideal for use in high-heat environments such as chemical processing, heat exchangers, and aerospace components.
